- Patch by davidfstr, Nice Work!
- Adds support for reading VOB subtitle tracks from file inputs.
Tested with:
- MKV VOB -> MKV VOB passthru.
- MKV VOB -> MKV VOB burned in.
VOB subtitle palette moved from per-title to per-track.
Discussion leading up to commit can be referenced here: http://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=16267

- Patch by davidfstr ... Thanks!
- Adds support for reading TEXT subtitle tracks from file inputs
- Tested combinations:
-- MKV UTF-8 -> MKV UTF-8 (passthru)
-- MKV UTF-8 -> MP4 TX3G (upconvert)
-- MP4 TX3G -> MKV UTF-8 (downconvert)
-- MP4 TX3G -> MP4 TX3G (downconvert to UTF-8 then upconvert)
- Further explained here http://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=16099

scans the dvd menus and presses buttons to see where they might lead.
when a button press leads to a title, i check to see if it is the
longest seen thus far and save it's index.
this only applies when dvdnav is enabled. when dvdread is in use,
the longest title of all the titles is flagged as the "main feature"

audio frames can be larger than their container packet sizes, but during
scan, we only feed one container packet to the decoder, then reset
the decoder and try the next packet. so the audio is never detected.
as buffers are tested, they are added to a cache. the entire cache is
passed to the decoder to scan for info. the cache is limited to 4KB.

- Enables setting modulus for all anamorphic modes (including non-anamorphic) except strict. The job variable "anamorphic.modulus" is repurposed for this and is renamed to simply "modulus"
- Other changes: Increases minimum output dimensions to 32x32 pixels in libhb (prevents possible crashes, notably in macgui). Better crop value and maximum crop value calculations to prevent crashes. Some code optimization / refactoring.

allows frame and pts based start points. end points were already
previously supported.
New job variables pts_to_start and frame_to_start specify the start point.
There can be a period during the encode where it has to search for
the start point. During this period, libhb sets a new state
HB_STATE_SEARCHING and sets progress and eta till start point found.

pipeline
For HD sources on an 8 core system with hyperthreading, we were using 1.5GB
of ram. Add to that the 600MB x264 uses for rc-lookahead, pushes it north of 2GB.
To reduce our memory usage, the fifo depths have been reduced are are no longer
a multiple of cpu count. Use of hb_snooze has been eliminated in the encoding
pipeline so that performance doesn't fall as a result of the reduced fifo depths.
In sync, each audio and video were given separate threads so that each can wait on
it's respective input fifo without blocking the others. In muxcommon, each stream
being muxed was given a separate thread so that each can wait on it's respective fifo.
This allows the removal of hb_snooze in the sync and muxer work loops. In both sync
and muxer, there is common data that is shared by all threads, so special init
routines allocate this shared data and initialize the threads.

When a directory is specified as the source, first we attempt to open as a dvd,
then if that fails, we attempt to open each file in the directory as a stream
source. Since opening a large directory of files can take a really long time,
you can also now cancel a scan.

- add ability to have 1 source subtitle feed many output subtitles
use hb_subtitle_add() to add output tracks.
example use case:
you want forced subtitles from a source track on one output track and
the entire subtitle stream from the same source track on a second
output track
- LinGui: make subtitle tab resemble functionality of the audio tab
any track can be added multiple times with different settings.

- when doing an indepth scan, do not scan CC tracks
- separate subtitle configureation attributes into separate
hb_subtitle_config_t. Add an instance of this to hb_job_t for
setting the attributes of the subtitle found through an indepth scan
- Add a default_track flag to hb_subtitle_config_t that tells the muxer
that the track should be flaged as the default. muxmkv uses this.
- When an indepth scan is complete, check to see if the autoselected
subtitle matchces (by id) one of the manually selected subtitles.
If a match is found, the autoselected subtitle with all the attributes
the user assigned to it replaces the manually selected subtitle.
- LinGui: Add "Default" column to subtitle tab. This is a radio that lets
the user choose which subtitle should be displayed by default.

Part 2 encoders is superfluous and when choosing between ffmpeg and xvid, xvid is the clear loser since we need to keep ffmpeg around for other functions and xvid constantly requires attention to ensure it compiles.
MacGui: Removes some stray references to the codec and unlinks it from the Xcode project.
CLI: Removes references to the codec and removes it as a dependency.

- new libmkv 0.6.4 with subtitle track support
- muxmkv supports vobsub and closed caption subtitles
- added subtitle format, source, and dest initialization to dvdnav
- moved subtitle_force flag into hb_subtitle_t struct as it needs to
be settable per subtitle
- gtk ui added subtitle tab which allows selection of multiple subtitles
- reorgainize subtitle sync code to prevent dropping of subtitles when
multiple subtitles are enabled

The major changes to libmp4v2 include the new Tags API for iTunes metadata management
and new API to set track chunk duration limits. Additionally, the patches for libmp4v2
are no longer required and libmp4v2 should build significantly faster as it now
enabled precompiled headers on various platforms.
Tags API effects common.h, decmetdata.c and muxmp4.c and replaces the operations in
a near 1:1 mapping for functionality except all access happens in between alloc/fetch
and store/free pattern.
libhb no longer checks the bits of cover-art in order to determine image type. That
functionality is now delegated to libmp4v2; and libhb identify_art_type() has been
removed accordingly.
Chunk duration support has been added which makes use of new API from libmp4v2:
MP4SetTrackDurationPerChunk( MP4File, MP4TrackId );
And muxmp4 adds new internal function MP4TuneTrackDurationPerChunk() which is
invoked after all video/audio track creation which tunes chunk duration to the
equivalent of 4-frames in track timescale; as per van's suggestion.

produce native win32 binaries. The main benefits are the binary does not have
any Cygwin runtime requirements and various host platforms can be leveraged
to build HandBrake.
Cross-compilation toolchains are complex to setup and recommended for experts
only; but once setup it can build at speeds similar to native builds,
on Darwin or Linux.
BUILD INSTRUCTIONS:
Add mingw32 toolchain to beginning of your path and take the toolchain
prefix from gcc (eg: i386-mingw32-gcc) and pass to configure:
./configure --cross=i386-ming32
PRODUCTS:
- hb.lib (static library)
- HandBrakeCLI.exe
DOWNLOADS:
Contrib downloads need to be seeded with:
- pthreads-w32-2-8-0-release.tar.gz (new)
- xvidcore-20090311.tar.gz
SUMMARY:
Specifically, all GUI trees are not impacted.

- Only wait for an IDR after a seek if we know the stream has IDRs. Even then, wait for at most 255 frames.
- If the stream doesn't have IDRs tell scan (via a new flag in the title struct) so that it can read but discard a second's worth of frames to get the decoder in sync withe stream.

generated during scan, and whether or not they're written to disk for later display. This will break any interfaces that use hb_scan until the new params are specified...sorry. Also adds a new job->seek_points setting (set this to the same as the number of previews) to be used with job->start_at_preview when doing live preview encodes, so the seek function has a frame of reference.
Wires up the CLI with a --previews option (long option only) to control the new scan parameters, and defaults the CLI to not writing previews to disk.
